2024 Heart Check for Tim
On April 13, 2017, Timothy Haley suddenly passed away from an unknown heart issue while playing cards with friends. Timothy was only 26 years old. Tim was essentially a healthy, active young man that participated in baseball, basketball, cross country, and loved to work out. Tim suffered from an unknown heart condition that was a thickening of the inner lining of the heart that caused a valve in his heart to close and never reopen.
Tim’s family and friends decided to host the annual “Heart Check for Tim” event in his memory. Their goal is to raise awareness for unknown heart conditions, have a fun day in Tim’s honor, and raise money for those diagnosed with heart conditions. At each event, Quincy Medical Group is on site to provide free heart screenings for Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy for all high school students. They also have a wiffleball tournament, poker run, food, live music, basket raffles and a silent auction.
All proceeds of the event benefits families of children with heart disease and the Timothy Haley Scholarship fund which is available to eligible QND students. WCU is proud to provide a $500.00 matching fund for this great cause. Stay tuned to heartcheck4tim.com for updates on next year’s event and other ways to support this program.
