School Contests

WCU CHRISTMAS CONTEST

For the 12th year, Western Catholic Union is sponsoring a “Christmas Contest” for young people. This year’s theme is “How is God In Your Life at Christmas?” This year there will be winners in the essay and poster contests in categories K-3 poster, grades 4-6 poster, 4-6 essay, 7-9 essay.

In the poster category students may submit paintings or drawings related to the above theme. Any size paper will be accepted.

Essays should be around 500 words. This can be typed or hand written. Entries will be judged on quality of work and relevance to theme. Decisions of the judges are final. Winning entries will be published in WCU’s official newsletter, the Record.

First prize in each category is $50 cash. Second prize is $30 and thrid prize is $20. Winners will be notified in December.

Entries must be postmarked on or before December 5.

On the back of the entry, include name, parents’ name, address, phone number, school, school address, grade, teacher’s name or school coordinator of the contest, school phone number.

WCU CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK POSTER CONTEST

The National Catholic Schools Week is the last week of January. Since 1996 Western Catholic Union has sponsored a poster contest for 5th and 6th grades during Catholic Schools Week.

Participants will receive a participation certificate and WCU T-shirt. The teachers in the schools do the judging. They notify WCU of the winners.

First place winners receive a $25 gift certificate to Wal-Mart; 2nd place winners, a $15 gift certificate; 3rd, 4th and 5th place winners will receive a $10 gift certificate.
